Long calls for calm after east Belfast violence

Naomi Long MP has called for calm in response to serious violence in east Belfast.

Alliance MP Naomi Long said: “I am calling for calm across East Belfast. The rule of law must be upheld and I would urge everyone to give the PSNI their full support as they bring this serious situation under control.

“Violence is never inevitable and all attacks on the PSNI and community must be condemned.

“We need responsible language and leadership from elected representatives, rather than blame game politics to ensure this violence is brought to an end.

Chris Lyttle MLA added: “Unless and until an alternative to the Parades Commission is delivered then the PSNI’s responsibility to uphold law and order must be respected.

“It is critical that political parties deliver leadership on difficult issues like parades if the lasting peace the vast majority of people in our community want to see is to be achieved.”
