The CS Lewis Festival, which will take place between 18 – 23 November, will feature exhibitions, art, music, tours and more that will celebrate the life of the author, who grew up in the Strandtown area.
Speaking at the festival launch today (Thursday) at Belmont Tower, Alliance MP Mrs Long said the festival, which has been organised by the East Belfast Partnership and Connswater Community Greenway group, would shine a light on someone who was strongly associated with East Belfast and gained world recognition from his writings.
“CS Lewis is author of some of the most famous and widely-read books in the English language,” she said.
“His Chronicles of Narnia series in particular has been beloved by generations and still enthrals both children and adults today. It is important we honour both his achievements and his memory, and this festival is the perfect way to do that, particularly in the year of the 50th anniversary of his death.
“CS Lewis will also be honoured at the Poets Corner in Westminster Abbey as part of the celebrations and I will be proud to be there to represent his home constituency. His stories entertain as well as teach, and I hope those who take part in the events are inspired by them.”
