Lo says Tory proposal of married couples tax break would be unfair

Alliance Social Development Spokesperson Anna Lo MLA has criticised Conservative proposals for a married couple’s tax break as unfair saying any such move would favour some couples over others.

Anna Lo MLA said: “This proposal is deeply unfair and would favour some couples over others.

“Such a scheme would favour married couples over single parents and couples who are unmarried. This is the type of Conservative policy that people were worried they might try to implement.

“The Conservatives to decide whether they want to represent fairness or inequality, and these proposals send out a strongly negative message about them.

“This is a very difficult time for people trying to make ends meet and the Conservatives should be focusing on helping those who need assistance most rather than providing a measure that will benefit married couples only.”
