Anna Lo MLA said: “I am very excited that the Giro d’Italia is about to begin. All the organisations and local businesses have done a magnificent job in decorating the route and turning Northern Ireland pink. I hope to get along to see as much of the race as possible and visit some of the events that are being organised by the different Councils.
“The Giro d’Italia will leave a positive legacy for Northern Ireland. It will undoubtedly be a massive boost for our economy and tourism, but I also hope it will encourage more people to take up cycling.
“It is great that such a prestigious international event will take place here. It is an opportunity to showcase what Northern Ireland can offer. I hope it will encourage the organisers of other events to consider Northern Ireland as a potential venue and that those watching it on television will book a holiday here after seeing our beautiful countryside.”
