Lo says cut in mortgage scheme rate change is deeply worrying

Alliance Social Development Spokesperson Anna Lo MLA has said a cut in the rate for the Support for Mortgage Interest scheme could have serious consequences for some people in Northern Ireland. The rate for the scheme which helps unemployed people with mortgage repayments will change from 6.08% to 3.63% from 1st October 2010.

Anna Lo MLA said: “This is a worrying development for people using this scheme here. It is troubling to think that many people could face serious financial difficulty when this cut takes place.

“This is a very tough time for people and many are finding it extremely difficult to make ends meet. Government is all about improving life for people and this change could have very serious consequences for some people using the scheme.”
