Lo sad that Romanian people are leaving Northern Ireland

South Belfast Alliance MLA Anna Lo has expressed sadness that more than 70 of the Romanian people who fled their homes last week following racist intimidation have decided to leave Northern Ireland.

Anna Lo MLA: “It is a sad day for Northern Ireland as some people have decided that they can no longer live here due to the actions of a tiny minority. I can understand why they have chosen to leave but I am saddened that it has come to this.

“I was, however, encouraged by the support and solidarity shown by many here for the Romanian people, and I hope that this positive action can be seen as a true reflection of Northern Ireland.

“These tragic events should be a wake up call for the Stormont Executive to ensure there is a strong strategy in place to address prejudice and create a genuinely shared society.”
