Lo hopes judgement will act as a deterrent to others from sending threatening messages

Alliance South Belfast MLA, Anna Lo, has welcomed the judgement in the case of a man who posted a threatening message to her on social media. David John Wylie posted a photo of himself with what appeared to be a gun with the message “Anna Lo you’re next”. When Police searched his house, they only found toy guns. He received a four month sentence suspended for three years.

Anna Lo MLA said: “I welcome the outcome of this case. I hope this shows that those who send offensive and threatening messages will have to deal with the full force of the courts and face the consequences of their actions.

“Those sending these sorts of messages will never deter Alliance from working on behalf of everyone to build a safe, shared and prosperous society for all.

“I hope this judgement will act as a deterrent to others from sending such messages on social media. There is a growing problem of cyber-bullying and sending threatening messages online that we must take a strong stance against.”
