Lo hails Alliance Conference motion to highlight human trafficking

South Belfast Alliance MLA Anna Lo has backed news that this Saturday’s Alliance Party Conference will put more pressure on the Executive and authorities to do more to combat human trafficking. Young Alliance’s Michael Bower will be tabling a motion on this issue following the overwhelming response to their petition on the issue at Queens University Freshers’ Fair.

Anna Lo MLA said “I am very glad that Young Alliance are going to table a motion putting pressure on the Executive and authorities to do more to combat the devastating effects of human trafficking.

“This campaign is gathering steam and continued coverage of this issue will increase the momentum and push the Executive to action on this sinister matter.

“Alliance is serious about tackling this growing problem. The Executive must prove that they are too.

“Exploitation simply cannot and must not happen. We need more resources allocated to this area and a more joined-up approach employed from all the relevant agencies.”

Young Alliance Representative Michael Bower said: “This is a great opportunity to put the need to combat human trafficking at the top of the news agenda.

“We had an overwhelming response to our petition at Queens University Freshers’ Fair and we will keep campaigning on this issue because this abhorrent practice must be stamped out.”
