Anna Lo MLA said: “I am extremely concerned by the rise of this reckless drinking game. Young people are being put under pressure to drink dangerous amounts of alcohol and take part in idiotic dares.
“It is completely irresponsible to take part in this activity and force others to do so. It is not harmless fun; it is a form of bullying that can have potentially devastating consequences.
“I would call on young people not to get involved in ‘neknomination’. Two lives have already been lost; I do not want to see any more young people needlessly die as a result of this drinking game.
“We should be encouraging our young people to drink responsibly and not get involved in this type of behaviour.”
