Lo and Curran praise Safe Place initiative at Stormont

South Belfast Alliance MLA Anna Lo and Laganbank Spokesperson Catherine Curran today attended the launch of the Safe Place and the Workplace Charter on Domestic Violence in Stormont. The initiatives, led by Women’s Aid enable various organisations and agencies to provide vital information on services available to victims of domestic abuse. The initiative also includes training and support on how to assist a victim of domestic violence.

Anna Lo MLA said: “This is a fantastic initiative, especially for representatives like myself whose constituency office attracts people from all walks of life with a wide range of issues and problems. I am pleased to be able to support ‘Safe Place’ and am proud that the Alliance Party has already achieved an award regarding the Workplace Charter on Domestic Violence.”

Catherine Curran said: “Domestic violence is a serious issue, which is all too often hidden. It is shocking to hear that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will suffer domestic violence, and that 4 out of 5 cases are never reported.

“I was delighted to be able to undertake training on this issue as part of Safe Place last year, to ensure that the Alliance South Belfast Constituency Office can assist anyone in such a difficult situation.”
