Lives maybe put at risk if people continue to steal copper in phone lines – Dickson

Alliance Chief Whip Stewart Dickson MLA has stated that lives may be put at risk if more copper in phone lines are stolen. His comments come after BT launched a task force to deal with several recent thefts in South Tyrone, Banbridge and Derry.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “If these disgraceful thefts of copper lines continues across Northern Ireland then somebody in urgent need to ring an ambulance or doctor could have their life put at risk if their phones line are stolen.

“I would call on all local communities to be vigilant of any suspicious behaviour around phone lines to contact the police immediately. And potential buyers of scrap copper should enquire where sellers acquired any large amount of the scrap metal.

“If anybody has any information about any of these previous copper thefts then they should contact the police.”
