Cllr Alan Lawther said: “These moves are long overdue and I am pleased that the Irish Government is now going to act.
“Illegal dumping is a serious blot on our landscape and has a terrible impact on local wildlife.
“I am pleased that the Irish Government has agreed to these moves and they set a template on how to deal with any issue like this more quickly in the future.
“Ideally we would like to see all those involved caught made to pay for this clean-up operate. That would be real justice and would send a real message to those involved in illegal dumping.”
