If given the go-ahead the current school would be closed by August 2016, with the new Crumlin Integrated College -with plans to teach up until A-Level – scheduled to open immediately afterwards.
Councillor Alan Lawther said: “I’m delighted to hear these latest two development proposals are being given real consideration by the Education Department and could become reality within a few years.
“It is simply not good enough that such a high volume of pupils are leaving the Crumlin area to attend school elsewhere, when they could have a fully-functioning, high quality school on their doorstep.
“For the past number of years I and my Alliance colleague Councillor Lynn Frazer have been working to progress a solution for everyone in the Crumlin area’
“The appetite for integrated education locally is clear – now we must do all we can to ensure these proposals become a reality.”
