Lavery says it vital people contribute to school consultation

Alliance Lurgan representative Peter Lavery has said it is vital local people participate in an ongoing consultation into the future of the Lurgan campus of Craigavon Senior High School.

Peter was speaking after meeting the Education Authority about the potential move, which would see the school’s pupils transferred to the Portadown campus from September 2020. A public consultation, which closes today, is available on the Education Authority’s website.

“It was important to discuss the issues raised by people in Lurgan first-hand with the Education Authority,” said Peter, who attended alongside Alliance Education spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA.

“There are real concerns from parents and pupils over the Education Authority’s preferred option being to close the Lurgan site and bus students to Portadown, which I put across in the meeting. There was also discussion about the potential to locate the Lurgan campus on the Lurgan Junior High School site, which I have asked the Education Authority to investigate.

“I want to encourage anyone interested in the future of education in Lurgan to take part in the consultation process and ensure their views are heard, so they can have a say in the final outcome before the end of today’s deadline.”
