Lavery appeals for information after car strikes police officer and member of public

Alliance Lurgan Councillor Peter Lavery has appealed for information after a car struck a police officer and a member of the public in Portadown.

Councillor Lavery was speaking after the incident on Drumcree Road. Shortly before 1pm, a silver-coloured Seat vehicle hit the police officer and the member of the public, who was there for a parade, and made off. The car was later abandoned at Churchill Park, with three men seen making off on foot.

“I am thankful the police officer and member of the public were not seriously injured,” said Councillor Lavery.

“This could have been a much worse incident and those behind it must be condemned.

“I urge anyone with information on this incident to contact police with it immediately, so the perpetrators can be taken off our streets.”
