Kelly says drive-by shooting was a “reckless act”

Alliance Antrim Councillor Neil Kelly has said a drive-by shooting incident in the town was a “reckless act” which could have led to the loss of life.

Councillor Kelly was speaking after gunshots were discharged from a moving car along Seven Mile Straight close to Mukamore around 6pm on Monday (August 10). It is believed a shotgun was used in the incident. No-one was injured, however the blast struck another car. Police are currently investigating a motive.

Councillor Kelly said it was lucky there had not been the loss of life.

“This was an utterly reckless act that could have easily ended in the loss of life – any innocent person in the area could have been unfortunate enough to have been on the end of the gunshot.

“There is no justification for anyone using firearms in this reckless manner and I hope the police establish a motive as soon as possible so a repeat can be prevented.

“I would urge anyone with information on this incident to contact the police with it immediately.”
