The attack took place on the Old Springfarm Road just before midnight.
Councillor Neil Kelly said: “I completely condemn this attack and my thoughts are with the young victim. I am glad to hear she escaped with minor injuries and hope she makes a full and quick recovery.
“I am appalled at the nature of this attack. Knives are dangerous weapons which are far too easily available.
“We all have a duty to be vigilant when it comes to knife crime and I would urge anyone with concerns, or information on this attack, to contact the PSNI as soon as possible.”
