Jones shocked at armed robbery of East Belfast restaurant

Alliance Belfast Councillor Mervyn Jones has expressed his shock after a restaurant was robbed on Tuesday night by a masked man who threatened staff with a large knife. The robbery happened at a restaurant on the Upper Newtownards Road in East Belfast at 11pm last night. A sum of cash was taken.

Cllr Mervyn Jones said: “I am shocked that this individual would so ruthlessly threaten members of staff at this restaurant. Thankfully nobody was injured.

“I was concerned that this individual used a knife during this robbery. Knives have no place on our streets.

“This must have been a harrowing incident for the staff members involved. I hope they will be able to recover from being in such a harrowing incident.

“If anybody has any information about this robbery then I would urge them to contact the police.”
