Japanese jobs announcement is down to highly skilled workforce of Larne – Dickson

Alliance East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson has welcomed the announcement that Japanese firm Terumo are increasing their workforce at their Larne base by 416. The firm makes medical blood processing technologies and will now employ 600 people. The announcement follows the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Belfast after the G8 summit.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “This is a vote of confidence in the local workforce in Larne. As we look to increase the amount of inward investment, it is welcome news that there will be an increase of such high skilled jobs.

“This is excellent news for the East Antrim economy. I would like to pay tribute to the work of the Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry who has sought to improve the skills base of the workforce that has helped make this announcement happen.

“While this jobs boost may have been decided before the G8 summit, I am sure that we have improved our links with Japan as the Japanese Prime Minister was able to release information about this announcement during his visit to Northern Ireland.

“Prime Minister Abe is the first Japanese leader to visit Northern Ireland, and with many of his country’s companies having bases here, I have every hope that the economic relationship between our two nations will continue to prosper.”
