The government is set to invest almost £14m into super-fast broadband in Belfast, with additional plans to offer free wireless internet access throughout the city.
Councillor Máire Hendron said: “This is fantastic news for Belfast, making it a major player with other UK cities in terms of attracting investment and jobs.
“Now is the time to be focused on the economy and this move will ensure Belfast will be able to provide a strong digital infrastructure, benefiting everyone in Northern Ireland.
“But it is not only businesses that will see benefits. Communities and visitors across Belfast will be able to take advantage of better access to the internet, providing many new opportunities.
“This is very positive news for Northern Ireland.”
