Hendron: No justification for attack on Police in East Belfast

Alliance Belfast Councillor Maire Hendron has condemned those involved in the trouble which took place in the Castlereagh Street area of East Belfast on Sunday night. Up to 60 youths took part in the trouble, in which masonry was thrown at the Police. One officer was injured and the windscreen of a Police vehicle was also damaged.

Cllr Maire Hendron said: “There can be no justification for attacking the Police. Somebody could have been seriously injured or worse in this trouble.

“I hope the injured officer will be able to make a swift recovery and return to his duties as quickly as possible.

“This must have been a frightening experience for local residents who want to go about their daily lives without the fear of this sort of trouble taking place on their street.

“I would urge anybody with any information about this trouble to contact the Police.”
