Hendron calls for calm following attack in East Belfast

Alliance Belfast Councillor Maire Hendron has called for calm on all sides following an assault between several individuals that took place in the Newtownards Road area at noon today. One person was arrested. This follows several petrol bombs that were thrown from both sides of the interface in recent days.

Cllr Maire Hendron said: “I am urging people on all sides to remain calm and to use restraint. We cannot have any violence on our streets.

“People need to understand that this is a sensitive time and the smallest incident can do serious damage to community relations.

“If anybody has any information about this incident then I would urge them to contact the police.”
