Hendron anger at vandalism at Short Strand chapel

Local Alliance Councillor Máire Hendron has expressed disgust at thugs who painted a graffiti threat against Neil Lennon on St Matthew’s Church in the Short Strand area of East Belfast in the wake of the Celtic-Rangers match last night. Spotlights were also smashed at the church.

Cllr Máire Hendron said: “This is a disgrace and those behind this need to realise that they and their hateful acts are not welcome anywhere. Go and do something positive instead of committing acts of vandalism. Almost every time Rangers and Celtic play there seems to be issues. This nonsense has to stop now – we are all sick of it across East Belfast.

“This church has just been renovated and much money has been spent on it. It is a lovely building and I am absolutely disgusted at these acts of hatred. Those behind this need to be brought to justice and I appeal to anyone with information to contact police immediately.”
