Kieran McCarthy MLA stated: “Alliance recognises the critical importance of a fundamental review of our health and social care system. The status quo is not sustainable, and the Alliance accepts the need for change and efficiencies for the right reasons.
“Health must remain a top priority for the Executive. The scarce resources available have to be used to their best effect. Ultimately, this review and any resultant reforms will have to be judged in terms of improved outcomes in terms of the health of the population.
“Throughout this process, Alliance has stressed the importance of prevention, early intervention and public health initiatives to reduce demand on the service.
“Like others, we will want to take time to study this report, the recommendations in it and the response of the Minister.”
