Griffin says Dromore deserves better than tribal timewasting

Alliance Dromore by-election candidate David Griffin says that the people of Banbridge and Dromore have been badly let down by some of their public representatives during the past week. He said that this area deserves someone that will foster good community relations and reflect the positive attitude of its people. His comments come after President of the Republic of Ireland, Mary McAleese, visited the Banbridge Civic Centre on Monday and was snubbed by some political representatives.

David Griffin said: “This area has disgracefully been portrayed as narrow-minded and even bigoted by some of its public representatives.

“Those who have stirred up sour old arguments about flags and emblems have let everyone down, and are pushing us back into the bitterness of the past. In the same vein, those who declined to meet the President of the Republic of Ireland at a time when Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness apparently enjoy each others company, seem totally out of touch.

“Northern Ireland is moving forward. Dromore deserves a Councillor that represents everyone, and that will work to promote and regenerate the area. You can be sure that Alliance Party will make a positive difference and create a shared future. Voting Alliance is common sense.”
