The South Antrim MLA said, “I welcome the introduction of the iLink travelcard by Translink. The card will allow for daily, weekly, or monthly unlimited travel in particular zones, based on travel to and from Belfast. Most of the Belfast urban area is within Zone 1, and as far as Carrickfergus, Antrim, Lisburn and Bangor is within Zone 2. The rest of Northern Ireland is Zone 3.
“The most significant benefit is that the card applies to Metro, Ulsterbus, and NI Railways. This is an important step forward. Until now integrated ticketing has only applied between Belfast and Bangor. I hope that we will be able to review this system in the next few years to create more localised zones, to encourage more people to use public transport.”
