Ford pays tribute to Father Alec Reid

Alliance Leader David Ford MLA has paid tribute to Father Alec Reid who has died at the age of 82 in Dublin on Friday morning. Father Reid acted as a conduit between republican paramilitary leaders and politicians during the peace process and was a witness to weapons decommissioning.

David Ford MLA said: “Father Reid played a very significant part in the peace process. His compassion and deep humanity will always be remembered.

“He was a man who put his faith into action. He was an inspiration to all those involved in the peace process.

“We all owe him a huge debt of gratitude for the work he carried out to bring an end to the Troubles.

“On behalf of the Alliance Party, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”
