Fitzpatrick shocked at death of young baby in fire

Alliance East Londonderry representative Cllr Barney Fitzpatrick has expressed his shock at the death of an 18 month old baby girl in a house fire in Dungiven on Tuesday night. The family managed to escape the house but the child died later in hospital.

Cllr Fitzpatrick said: “This is a big shock to the local community. To lose a young baby is a tragedy, it is absolutely devastating. I would like to pass on my condolences to the family.

“My thoughts go out to the family in what must be a difficult time for them.

“Everybody must ensure that they have working smoke alarms so we do not lose any more lives in fires.”
