The Coleraine Councillor said: “This is great news that the railway line will be re-laid. I have been at the forefront of the campaign to get the line improved.
“Once the work is completed it will increase speed and efficiency, which is going to help boost tourism as well as the local economy.
“Hopefully this news will bolster the chance of there being more frequent services along this line. In the longer term it will ensure that there will be a greater chance of providing more north south rail links.
“It is also good news from an environmental perspective as a faster service should encourage people to use public transport more rather than just using their cars.”
