45-year-old John Wu was attacked by four men and a woman outside his home in the Long Commons area on Tuesday night.
Councillor Fitzpatrick said: “I am absolutely disgusted at this attack in Coleraine. There can be no other response than complete revulsion for this type of crime.
“There is no place in our society for hate crime and I am ashamed that a man was subjected to this type of racist attack in Coleraine.
“I would urge anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible. Those behind this attack must be taken off the streets for good.”
