Fairtrade Group welcomed to Mayor’s Parlour

Members and supporters of the Dundonald Fairtrade Steering Panel were guests of the Mayor of Castlereagh, Cllr. Ann-Marie Beattie, at a Council reception in recognition of the awarding of Fairtrade Village status for Dundonald in recent months.

The reception was held at the Council Offices at Forestside and was also attended by pupils and teachers from Dundonald and Brooklands Primary Schools, the Housing Executive along with Alliance Councillors Michael Long and Judith Cochrane.

Chair of the Fairtrade Steering Panel, Gillian Graham, “We would like to thank the Council and the Mayor for hosting this reception for our group in recognition of the achievement of Dundonald becoming the first Fairtrade Village in Northern Ireland. We were pleased that other members of the local community who have been involved in the campaign were able to come along and especially the children from local schools with whom we have been working so actively.

Cllr. Michael Long said, “I would also like to thank the Mayor for her hospitality and it is very encouraging to see the increasingly positive response to the Fairtrade initiative by the Council in recent years.”
