Egan appeals to people to stay away from leisure centre following storm damage

Alliance North Down Councillor Connie Egan has appealed to locals to avoid the area around the Aurora Leisure Complex in Bangor, after the centre suffered storm damage to its roof.

The area around the complex has been cordoned off by police, with reports of insulation from the roof flying loose.

“It appears the roof of Bangor Aurora has suffered significant damage in last night’s storm,” said Councillor Egan.

“As a result, insulation appears to have fallen and is lying loose around the centre. This is obviously concerning and I would appeal to people to avoid the area if possible. I have contacted the Council, who have assured me work to clean up the insulation and repair the centre will take place as soon as possible.

“While we have seen strong winds overnight, questions also need asked as to how so much damage happened to what is a relatively new centre. I will be pursuing this matter with the Council.”
