Economic growth report is pleasing, but new Executive has much work to do

Alliance Economy Spokesperson Séan Neeson MLA, has welcomed a report published by the Ulster Bank predicting increased jobs for Northern Ireland, but he stated that the new devolved Minister still has much work to do to bolster the local economy. The Ulster Bank report, which was published today, outlined that a strengthening of the construction sector was the main contributory factor for the growth.

The East Antrim Assembly Member said: “It is pleasing to hear that the local economy is likely to strengthen and more jobs are being created; however, much work must be done by the new Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister to encourage growth across all sectors.

“All attention will be on the incoming Executive to see whether they are up to the job of sustaining the growth in our economy. They must build on local confidence to maximise the potential of the current momentum in our economy.

“They must also be responsive to the needs of local businesses and must adequately address the important issue of attracting inward investment. The creation of more high value jobs is a key priority. We have a highly-skilled population, and the pressure will be on the new Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister to ensure that jobs are available to match these skills.”
