Alliance Lisburn Councillor Brian Dornan has expressed his disgust after paint was thrown over the Glenavy war memorial on Main Street in the town. Police are investigating and believe the paint was thrown early on Friday morning.
Cllr Brian Dornan said: “I am disgusted that mindless thugs have desecrated this war memorial. This will achieve nothing.
“It is an insult to those brave soldiers whose names are on this memorial who made the ultimate sacrifice in various wars in the name of peace. It is made even worse considering that Remembrance Sunday was only a few days ago, when many came to pay their respects and remember the fallen.
“I know that there is a lot of anger about this attack. Those responsible must be apprehended by the authorities, I would urge anybody with any information about this crime to contact the police.”
