Cllr Conrad Dixon said: “I welcome this action which followed discussions between the Police and local people. I would like to commend all those who played their part in these talks which has resulted in a positive decision for the area.
“I have been contacted by a number of residents in the Kernan area who felt intimidated and threatened by flags being displayed outside their homes. What we need now is for all the statutory agencies to work together to take action on this issue for the benefit of residents and local businesses.
“My Party has seen the importance of this issue and has called for a new permanent policy to deal with flags as the current one is clearly not working.
“The past summer has seen some raised tensions in Craigavon, so this decision will go a long way to improving community relations. I hope that we will be able to see similar positive discussions ahead of next summer that could see better relations between all sides of the community.”
