Dickson welcomes proposals by the Justice Minister to reduce civil legal aid bill

Alliance Justice spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has welcomed the proposals by the Justice Minister David Ford to reduce the civil legal aid bill by £14 million per year. The proposals are set out in a consultation document entitled ‘Civil Legal Aid Remuneration’.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “I welcome these proposals from the Justice Minister which will result in further savings to his legal aid budget.

“This is a Minister who is serious about making substantial savings in his budget. He has already shown that this is possible after he reduced the criminal legal aid budget by £20 million.

“This is about protecting the principle that people should have access to justice and assistance with their legal problems, while reducing the unsustainable legal aid budget.”
