Dickson Welcomes new Translink Try the Train Campaign

Alliance East Antrim MLA and Regional Development Spokesperson, Stewart Dickson MLA, has welcomed a new campaign from Translink entitled ‘Try the Train’.

The new public awareness campaign highlights the benefits of rail travel following the introduction of a new timetable.

Mr Dickson said that now is a great time for those considering their travel options to switch to the train, due to better quality service and relative cost benefits.

“I am particularly pleased to see that the majority of trains on the Larne Line will now travel directly through to Great Victoria Street. This is something that the public feel very strongly about and that I have consistently raised with Translink. Not having to change trains at Belfast Central Station should make journeys much more relaxing, enjoyable and indeed more reasonable.

“In addition, Consumer Council figures suggest that the cost of weekly and monthly train fares on the Larne Line compare favourably with driving. I would encourage everyone, but particularly those struggling with high fuel costs, to take advantage of the favourable costs offered by using the train.

“As a member of the Regional Development Committee, I am currently involved in discussions about the future of public transport in Northern Ireland. I am determined to help deliver a service that the public deserve and to bring about a modal shift away from our dependence on private cars.

“This will benefit people financially, help to reduce frustration on our overcrowded roads and protect our environment by reducing the carbon dioxide produced by that congestion”.
