Dickson Welcomes Education Investment in East Antrim

Alliance party MLA for East Antrim, Stewart Dickson, is delighted by the Minister for Education’s announcement that three East Antrim schools are to benefit from the Department’s Major Capital Works Projects.

Woodburn Primary School in Carrickfergus is to undergo ‘major works’, as will St.Killian’s College, Carnlough, whilst a new build is proposed for the combined Monkstown High School and Newtownabbey Community High School.

Mr Dickson said: “I welcome the Minister’s announcement, this significant investment in these East Antrim schools is something for which I have long been calling. Currently, I am aware that five out of seven classes at Woodburn Primary School are taught in mobiles. I consider this to be beyond unacceptable.

“Despite today’s positive announcement, I am disappointed that the Minister is still yet to acknowledge Kilcoan and Mullaghdubh Primary Schools in Islandmagee. I shall also continue to pursue the matter of Corran Integrated Primary School in Larne, for which the Minister has made an announcement, but from which we have seen very little action.

“Today’s announcement needs to be turned into real action on the ground, and I shall be relentless in ensuring that these projects are enacted by the Department of Education.”
