Dickson welcomes arrests after Ardoyne riots

Alliance Party Justice Spokesperson, Stewart Dickson MLA, has praised the work of the police after five people were arrested in connection with riots in North Belfast on July 12.

A 33-year old man has been arrested for the attempted murder of police officers, while a further four men have been remanded in custody after violence broke out in theArdoyne area following a parade on July 12.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “I would like to pass on my congratulations to the Police for a successful operation. Effective investigative work has led to these quick arrests.

“These arrests prove there will be consequences for your actions. Anyone involved in this type of behaviour should realise they will be caught and dealt with by the courts. Once caught you will receive a criminal record that will be with you for the rest of your life.

“The people who were involved in this riot have done damage to their own community as well as to reputation of Northern Ireland. I hope these and future arrests will show to people that this type of behaviour is unnacceptable.”
