Dickson says reopening of Gobbins cliff path will help boost local tourism

Alliance East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson MLA has welcomed the announcement that the Gobbins cliff path will be reopening next year after £4.2 million was given to the project by Larne Council. The path, opened in 1902, provided spectacular views of the coast near Islandmagee, but maintenance of the path deteriorated in the 1940s and 1950s.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “The Gobbins cliff path is a historic part of the East Antrim coastline. Its planned reopening is excellent news for tourism in the local area.

“There are some spectacular locations along the East Antrim coastline for the public to visit. I hope that this will become another major attraction along with Carrickfergus Castle.

“I would like to congratulate all those involved in this project and I hope that it will be returned to its former glory.”
