Stewart Dickson MLA said: “It is shocking that the policing of parades and protests over the summer cost £7.4 million. This money could have and should have been better spent elsewhere.
“I know that the Chief Constable has made a commitment to increase the level of community policing, I am sure that £7.4 million could have been well spent on being proactive in reducing crime.
“This report further highlights the need for leaders from all sides to show a maturity to reach agreement on the issue of parading to reduce policing bills in future years.
“I would like to pay tribute to the officers who were involved in the different operations to maintain the rule of law during a difficult summer.”
