Dickson says Ford is delivering on a shared future by removing security gates in Derry’s walls

Alliance Justice spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has praised the decision by the Justice Minister David Ford to remove 11 out of the 16 security gates in Derry-Londonderry. Stewart said this was an example of an Alliance Minister delivering on a shared future.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “This is evidence of an Alliance Minister delivering on a shared future. By working with local residents, we can build the necessary confidence to remove security gates and open up peace walls.

“Both David Ford, and fellow Alliance Minister Stephen Farry are progressing a shared future within their departments because they understand the importance of it for our economy and society.

“We outlined our vision for an Executive shared future strategy when we published our ‘For Everyone’ document. It is time that the First and deputy First Minister work towards delivering a challenging document and action plan, rather than just relying on individual Ministers choosing to do such work within their Departments.

“With 2013 being the Derry-Londonderry City of Culture, this decision will further enhance the city’s reputation as being welcoming to all.

“The walls of Derry are one of the biggest tourist attractions in Northern Ireland, however these security gates have been a real eyesore. This decision will improve the enjoyment of one of our biggest historical attractions.”
