Dickson says extra money for buses and roads should improve our transport network

Alliance Regional Development spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has welcomed the money that has been directed to the Department for Regional Development in the June Monitoring Round.

£31million will be spent on the purchase of buses for Ulsterbus and Metro services and on roads maintenance. £40million will also be spent on the Magherafelt bypass.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “Last month, I reminded the Regional Development Minister that he was not just the Minister for Roads, but also the Minister for Public Transport. I suggested to him that he was looking at his Department through ‘roads tinted glasses’ when he continually referred to himself as the Roads Minister in the Assembly.

“He has a duty to improve our public transport system to encourage more people to get out of their cars.

“I welcome this funding that will improve both our public transport system and our road system.”
