Dickson says crossbow use “sinister”

East Antrim MLA Stewart Dickson has said the use of a crossbow in an attack in Carrickfergus was a “sinister incident”.

The Alliance MLA was speaking after a masked man fired a crossbow bolt at a van on the forecourt of a petrol station in the town yesterday (Tuesday) around 5.15pm on Prince Andrew Way. Two men who were in the black van escaped uninjured but minor damage was caused to the vehicle.

“The use of such a serious weapon makes this a particularly sinister incident,” said Mr Dickson.

“The crossbow is a lethal weapon and its use could be considered attempted murder. My thoughts are with the two men who were the victims of this attack, which has shocked the local community.

“I appeal to anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately.”
