Dickson outraged at comments on First Minister attending Requiem Mass

Alliance Chief Whip, Stewart Dickson MLA, has expressed his disgust at the comments made by Wallace Thompson from the Evangelical Protestant Society, who claimed that it was wrong for Peter Robinson to attend the Requiem Mass of Constable Ronan Kerr in 2011.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “Peter Robinson did the right thing in attending the Requiem Mass of Constable Ronan Kerr. The comments by Wallace Thompson have disrespected the memory of Constable Kerr, who was murdered by dissident republicans whilst serving the community. It is a fundamental mark of respect for the dead and their family and colleagues to attend a funeral.

“The group Mr Thompson represents is very much at the margins and I’m sure that the majority of Christians in Northern Ireland will find his comments disgraceful.

“In my view, they go against the core teachings of Christianity to being kind and love your neighbour.

“I call on Mr Thompson to withdraw this statement and to apologise to the family of Constable Kerr.”
