However, Mr Dickson said it was disingenuous of Ms Foster to attempt and paint all those opposed to the UK’s withdrawal as nationalist.
“Last week, 56 per cent of people in Northern Ireland voted to remain in the European Union. For Arlene Foster to attempt and paint every one of those people as nationalist is plainly wrong. Those who voted remain here cut across all demographics of age, gender, class and otherwise.
“There is no doubt last week’s decision was a disappointing one but we have to accept the result. The key is now getting as good a deal for Northern Ireland as possible. The concerns of the majority of people here need to be heard.
“Instead of spreading inaccuracies about those who voted to remain, the First Minister should be concentrating on how to combat the lasting consequences we will see in Northern Ireland and how we can let the voices of the majority be heard.”
