Dickson – HET report shows the need for a comprehensive means of dealing with the past

Alliance Justice spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has said the report on the Historical Enquiries Team by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary has again highlighted the need to find a comprehensive means of dealing with the legacy of the past. The report was critical of the way the HET dealt with cases involving deaths caused by soldiers.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “This detailed report raises significant issues that the PSNI will have to address. However, the PSNI cannot deal with the past themselves.

“This report has once again reinforced the need to find a comprehensive means of dealing with the legacy of the past.

“The Alliance Party has proposed debates in Stormont and Westminster calling for the British and Irish Governments to hold talks on how we can find agreement on this issue. We cannot ignore it because it is too difficult to resolve.”
