Dickson hails great news on A2, A8 and A5 roads

Alliance Regional Development Spokesperson and MLA for East Antrim for which the A2 and A8 serve Stewart Dickson has welcomed the news that the A2, A8 and parts of the A5 are going to be upgraded. He has said that these developments will provide a significant boost for the economies in these areas, including up to 2,500 construction jobs. He said the fact that the DUP Finance Minister announced these moves rather than the UUP Minister responsible for roads shows the DUP is gobbling up the fast-fading UUP.

Stewart Dickson said: “This is a very significant announcement which is of massive importance to our transport infrastructure.

“These upgrades to the A2, A8 and A5 will help provide a real boost to the local economies and to the construction sector, and demonstrates that the Executive is delivering even at this difficult time.

“I have campaigned for decades to have the A2 road upgraded and this great news will help significantly cut journey times for the thousands of commuters that use this route every day.

“This route together with the A8 is key for access to the towns of Larne and Carrickfergus their economic development and beyond to the Antrim Coast and Glens, it will help boost tourism as well as other businesses.

“The A5 news is very positive too because it will help deliver greater North South connectivity which will help benefit our tourism industry and economy.”
