Dickson: Discovery of remains provides new hope for family of disappeared

Alliance Justice spokesperson, Stewart Dickson MLA, has said that the discovery of human remains by investigators searching for the body of one of the disappeared, Brendan Megraw, will provide new hope to the victim’s family. Brendan Megraw was 23 years old when he was abducted from Twinbrook by the IRA in 1978.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “The murder and secret burial of the bodies of the disappeared will forever remain one of the darkest episodes of the Troubles.

“The discovery of human remains by forensic investigators in County Meath will provide hope to the family of Brendan Megraw, who deserve closure 36 years after his disappearance.

“The families of the disappeared have suffered a double tragedy. Not only did they have the experience of losing a loved one, but they have also been unable to hold a proper burial.

“If anybody has any information regarding the location of any of the bodies of the disappeared, then I would urge them to get in touch with the Police or the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains.”
