Alliance MLA Mr Dickson was speaking following the announcement by Schrader Electronics it would release 42 temporary employees from its plant in the town before the end of the year. The company, which makes tyre pressure gauges, employs around 1,000 people throughout Northern Ireland.
“These job losses are deeply concerning and will cause distress locally,” said Mr Dickson.
“It is particularly worrying, given this announcement comes the same day Northern Ireland’s unemployment rate was announced as having fallen.
“We must do what we can to lessen the impact on the affected employees and I will be discussing the issue with my colleague, Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry, to help do just that.”
